This Mandarin Immersion series will take kids on a language journey through drawing and color! In this unique educational experience, your child will learn Mandarin through creative, arts-based activities and instruction. They'll learn primary and secondary colors and their names in Mandarin, and may practice writing and pronouncing vocabulary to describe their works of art. They'll also see how many Mandarin words are inspired by real objects, and possibly use them as inspiration for drawings and creative expression. Activating both sides of the brain, this language series is an enriching way to honor the whole child in an immersive, language arts experience.
Hillary began to draw and paint at age four and has made art throughout her life. She holds BA and MA degrees in art, and pursued advanced studies in interior design and landscape architecture. She has over 10 years of experience teaching Mandarin to children including young children. As a native Mandarin speaker, Hillary enjoys sharing both her language, culture, and passion for art and design with kids. She takes a joyful approach, and encourages children to be creative and imaginative, using all of their senses as well as their hearts when making art. Chinese writing is an artform in and of itself, and through this medium Hillary often crosses over between language and art instruction with her students. She's also fluent in digital art media and tools.
