In this 5-week sewing series, children will participate in a weekly fashion design program from design to runway. They'll learn about drawing, apparel design and machine and hand sewing. Materials provided.
Week 1: Intro to apparel drawing: future designers will learn about shapes and textures to improve their drawing ability. They'll focus on the basics of garment drawing and put their design ideas down on paper.
Week 2: Work with different mediums to continue to develop drawing skills, and study other designers' work to learn about the process from design to sketching, runway to rack. Interpret designs into final details to get ready for the runway!
Week 3: Understand the basics of sewing including parts of the machine, how to set up for sewing, and troubleshooting issues. Kids will practice on sample fabrics, and sew small item to become more comfortable using the sewing machine. They'll pin-pattern and cut out their final designs.
Week 4: Machine sewing on their final design. Using a variety of tools, kids will begin to construct clothing. They'll also learn fabric components and more technical skills this week.
Week 5: Finish sewing designs, make fit changes as needed, fix any mistakes, and complete one's fabulous creation! Runway ready ✅
Fashion designer and in-demand sewing instructor, Marsha has taught sewing privately for the past 13 years. Before teaching, she worked as a seamstress in her university's theater costume shop while studying to be designer. Marsha currently teaches a variety of after-school sewing programs, and has instructed hundreds of private students ages 3 and up in their homes, beginning with hand-sewing and more advanced technique on sewing machines for older aged schoolchildren. She's excited to bring needle and thread, creativity and fun, to your kids!
